hi, i’m pilgrim. welcome to the draw! pilgrim blog
i was born in 1982 in adelaide, south australia. the only child of two creative patents, i grew up spending a lot of time in my mum’s graphic design studio and my dad’s photography dark room. i was surrounded by art and design books and from a really early age had definite ideas about style.
the early exposure to the graphic style of my parent’s youth has stayed with me and some of my strongest influences are things i encountered when i was still small: heinz edelmann’s yellow submarine, the designers behind push pin graphic, marimekko, alexander girard and the bold fabrics etc of the era.
i loved my after school art classes and school holidays were spent running wild at the technical college my mum worked at. imagine the fun i had in full professional video studio, photography studio and audio studio – as well as my mum’s store room full of letraset, airbrushes and inks! heaven.
as i grew older i worked alongside my mum on freelance work and later i studied visual communication at the university of south australia.
after spending a few years in england, i am now settled in the fabulous city of melbourne, australia. i live with my boy friend and our son in a colorful and inspiring house (take a peek on my home tour page) from where i run draw! pilgrim.
about draw! pilgrim
draw! pilgrim is a play on words referencing a john wayne catchphrase and combining what may parents called me -pilgrim – with my love of drawing and design. its a playful call to arms for lovers of vintage style!
i love the style of 1960s & 70s, when color was not a dirty word, and all aspects of design reflected the upheaval and excitement of youth culture. my work under the draw! pilgrim brand is influenced by this era, and this blog is my way of letting you behind the scenes, and inside my head and my heart!
i’m so excited to share my work with you and if you think i’d be the right fit for a job you have in mind, please don’t hesitate in approaching me for my rates.
